AI is a mannequin wearing your persona.

It's hard to wrap your head around how much bland AI-generated content is pumped out, so it feels refreshing when you come across an authentic voice.

I've got five super-simple ways you can generate
AI content and still write like a human.

It doesn't matter how much you prompt your chosen AI bots to adopt a relaxed style or inject emotion; it still feels… vanilla.

Plus, AI is often inaccurate and is plagiarism on an industrial scale.

I road-tested Human Writer today.

It does the job – sort of – but it definitely ain't human!

Here's their robotic home page, which, frankly, makes me weep for the future:

Why Authentic Writing Matters

Small businesses can be brave about writing authentically because their passion for their businesses oozes out. You can feel it in their language.

Everything from blogs to social media posts becomes infused with emotion and their unique tone of voice.

Small brands often say it like it is, and it's damn refreshing.

Big brands hire expensive agencies to
make them sound like small brands.

Authenticity and writing like a human is vital to building loyalty and trust. Being genuine literally drives engagement and sales.

5 Simple Strategies For Writing Like A Human

Not everyone can write with confidence. Not everyone is brimming with content ideas.

You may not be Ernest Hemingway at the keyboard. Still, you have ideas, opinions, lived experiences and values to share.

AI is a mannequin wearing your persona.

Here's how you transform vanilla AI into something you're proud to own.

Let’s go!

1. SPEND TIME WORKING OUT YOUR PROMPTS. HERE’S HOW:

Writing concise and clever prompts for AI is becoming a craft in itself.

A loose brief will end up in AI going off on tangents. Getting granular is an exercise in really working out what you wish to achieve.

Be clear about your goals and intentions. Be pernickety.

For example, imagine you’re an HR consultant explaining the benefits of hybrid working

Example prompt for ChatGPT

You can see how precise the prompt is.

The results are accurate enough with a positive bias, although not that original.

However, ChatGPT has scraped enough juicy conjecture for you – the actual human in the room – to turn some of those results into a non-boring and compelling argument.

2. BRING A HUMAN TOUCH TO YOUR CONTENT CREATION

Adjectives and adverbs are standard in everyday conversation, and AI doesn't use them well.

Grammarly is my go-to AI tool, but it often recommends stripping back my language.

If Grammarly had its way, my writing would be neat and tidy but lack personality.

Don't be afraid to put your spin on your writing.

Here's a portion of the same ChatGPT-generated content I used earlier:

*Yawn*. ChatGPT generated this vague nod towards Inclusivity:

"Flexibility Fosters Inclusivity: Hybrid working allows employees with diverse needs and preferences to find a working arrangement that suits them, promoting inclusivity within the company culture.”

A human (me) took the idea and edited it:

“Inclusivity Thrives In Flexible Cultures: Companies offering hybrid working enable people with diverse needs, personal responsibilities or preferences to feel respected and included – whatever life throws their way.”

A human (me) took the idea and wrote this more persuasive case:

“Flexibility Encourages Inclusivity: Companies with a flexible or hybrid mindset can access a diverse pool of talented people who don't necessarily fit into a rigid on-site Monday-to-Friday structure. Visionary leaders know that when a broad spectrum of people are offered flexibility, by default, company culture becomes richer, more diverse and more inclusive.”

3. USE EVERYDAY, RELATABLE LANGUAGE

Go on, whip your thesaurus out. Merriam-Webster is my go-to.

AI-generated content defaults to benign, slightly corporate language.

Rather than regenerating AI content, try switching out some of the ordinary words for your own more colourful language.

ChatGPT said, "Flexibility Fosters Inclusivity".

'Fosters' sounds cold and corporate. If you're writing for human beings or want to be more conversational, check your thesaurus and try some alternatives:

Flexibility Encourages Inclusivity (more informal).

Flexibility Nurtures Inclusivity  (indicates empathy).

See what I did there?

4. BOSSING AI CONTENT-GENERATION

Remember, AI is not your friend. You are the mighty overlord, not a minion.

Artificial intelligence cannot imitate you or write with authentic emotion despite its best efforts. If you rely on AI to do your job, your content will sound bland. Before you hit ‘publish’…

Read. Think. Edit.

5. HIRE A PROFESSIONAL WRITER

You saw this coming, huh?

If copywriting or content creation is not your thing and you believe excellence matters, hire a professional writer.

For original, non-plagiarised, non-scraped, SEO’d content, hire a creative professional who will get under the skin of your content and give it some pizzazz.

Naturally, I'm massive on pizzazz.
